The background is created in several layers of acrylic paints with palette knives and loose strokes. The birds are painted in oils with fine brushes. They also have Diamond Dust which gives them a sparkle in the light much like the shimmering feathers of a Hummingbird.
Hummingbirds have a long history of folklore and symbolism in native cultures. The Aztecs saw them as messengers between them and their ancestors or the Gods. In Native American culture, Hummingbirds are seen as healers, and bringers of love, good luck and joy.
The edges of the canvas are white for a more contemporary look
